Congratulations, bride-to-be! Saying "yes" to the dress is a magical moment, but the true enchantment happens during alterations. This is where your gown transforms, custom-tailored to hug your curves and flow flawlessly, ensuring you feel absolutely breathtaking on your wedding day.

Get ready to fall in love with your dress all over again as we guide you through the world of wedding dress alterations, with special insights into what awaits you at Holmes & Co Bridal!
At Holmes & Co Bridal, we recommend you allow two months for your dress alterations to be perfectly completed although at peak season, or if you have notified us that you have been losing weight, we may start these earlier. This generous timeline ensures our experienced seamstresses have ample time to dedicate their time to your gown, guaranteeing a stunning, bespoke fit. Your first fitting is a pivotal step, and we're so excited to welcome you back to the boutique to begin this process!
Q: What should I Bring to my wedding dress alterations.
Your First Fitting: What to Expect & What to Bring!
Your initial fitting is a truly special moment where you and your seamstress will focus intently on perfecting your gown. To ensure this goes smoothly, here are a few important things to keep in mind:
* Bring Your Wedding Shoes (It's Essential!): This is absolutely crucial! If you haven't found them yet, remember we have a selection of gorgeous Rainbow Club shoes in-store, you can book an accessory appointment here to come and try some on. It's vital to bring the exact shoes you'll be wearing on your big day. Your seamstress won't be able to proceed with the fitting without them, as the dress length is tailored specifically to your height with your shoes on. Skipping this may even incur extra charges for her time, so please don't forget them!
* Avoid Fake Tan or Spray Tan: This may seem obvious, but just a friendly reminder not to wear any fake tan to your fittings, as it can transfer onto your beautiful dress.
Q: How Many people can I bring to my dress alteration appointment?
This first appointment is an important time for you and your seamstress to concentrate on the intricate details of your alterations. We recommend keeping guests (if any) to a minimum. Your initial fittings may involve discussions of intimate details, such as how your bust is supported and positioned. Don't worry, there's a perfect opportunity for a grand reveal later!
How Many Wedding Dress Fittings Will I Need?
Most gowns will need some tweaks or adjustments, so allow 2 to 3 fittings as part of the process. While we don't put a number on perfection, these sessions are where you'll see your dress evolve into its flawless final form, tailored uniquely for you.
How Much do wedding dress alterations cost??
Please note that alterations are an additional cost and are not included in the dress price. Your seamstress will keep you informed of the balance due during the period of your fittings, and the full balance is to be paid at the very end of your fittings (upon dress collection).

What If My Shape Changes Before the Big Day?
Life happens, and we understand! If you're planning a wellness journey and order your dress well in advance, we can happily defer measurements until closer to six months before your dress arrives. And if you find your shape changes after your order, rest assured, our highly skilled seamstresses can adjust the gown by up to two dress sizes. This flexibility means you can focus on enjoying your journey, knowing your dress will always fit perfectly.
Do You Offer In-House Alterations?

Absolutely! Holmes & Co Bridal offers a wonderful in-store alteration service, making the process seamless and convenient. Our dedicated seamstresses are available for your fittings on Wednesdays from 10 am to 7 pm and Thursdays until 5 pm. Your fittings will take place at our beautiful Georgian House location: 39 Hall Gate, Doncaster, DN1 3NR. For convenient parking, we recommend E Laith Gate, Doncaster, DN1 3NL.
