One of the loveliest trends we have seen recently is Brides asking their Mum to be their “Something Blue"

As a boutique owner I’m fortunate enough to witness some of the most heartfelt moments. Whilst wedding fashion trends come and go, these moments stay with me forever. Brides are forever finding meaningful ways to honour those close to them, and I am here for this!

A tradition with a personal twist

I’m sure you have heard the Victorian rhyme, ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’.

The something Blue served as a magical shield against the "evil eye"—a curse cast by envious onlookers that could cause misfortune or infertility. As a Mum myself, I would like to think I would shield my child from an ‘evil eye’.

Instead of adding a blue bow inside your dress, many Brides are choosing this meaningful way of involving their Mum, and often the Grooms Mum too.

Creating memories before the wedding day

What I love most about this gesture, is it creates a special moment before the wedding begins, and lets face it Mums, its one less thing for you to think about when you are given a colour code!

What's particularly lovely is that this trend can work for every family dynamic.

Whether a bride is close to her mum, step mum, grandmother, mother-in-law, or another important female figure in her life, the idea can be adapted to reflect the relationship that matters most.

Modern weddings are becoming increasingly personal, and I think that's one of the reasons this trend resonates so strongly.

There are no rules. It's simply about recognising someone who has played an important role in your journey.

If you're considering asking your mum to be your Something Blue, let us know in advance and we can make it extra special by helping her find an outfit she'll feel incredible wearing on your wedding day?

At Holmes and Co Bridal, we've handpicked a collection of elegant blue occasion wear that's perfect for Mothers of the Bride and Mothers of the Groom, and yes Grandma wants to look fabulous too. From soft powder blues to striking navy tones, these are some of our favourite blue wedding guest and mother-of-the-couple looks for the season.
